About Bluewater Trail Public Art

Book Direct with the Owner at Bluewater Trail Public Art with ACT Tourism in Mackay, for all your Attraction and travel needs.

One of the most significant public art developments in Australia can be experienced in Mackay. The Bluewater Trail Public Art display consists of six installations by Queensland artist, Fiona Foley. Mangrove cap - this weathered Corten-steel structure is illuminated with solar-powered LED lights and highlights the importance of the mangrove within the ecosystem of the Pioneer River. It can be found in open grassland on the Bluewater Trail, near the mouth of the Pioneer River. Fishbones, Sugar cubes and Shields can all be found in close proximity of each other on the Bluewater Quay, on the east side of the Forgan Bridge. The large cast iron and red mosaic fishbones are the focal point of many visitor photos. On the opposite side of the Forgan Bridge is YUWI, two metre high red letters representing the local Aboriginal people and their lands. In the foreground is a bronze wreath, a symbol of sacred land. Crows, laser-cut stainless steel, can be found floating above Bluewater Lagoon. It also features a willie wagtail, (bird), and three flying foxes, (bats), in illustration of local fauna. An information map can be downloaded from the Artspace Mackay web site.
